Drug Rehab Health Insurance Coverage!

Archives

As I am sure that many of you or have dealt with addiction in some shape or form, I felt the need to share a brief example of how to best utilize health insurance for alcohol and drug rehab coverage. Until you are personally in this situation yourself, you really just don’t know what to do! I mean, it’s not like you put away a savings for these kind of emergencies!

For this vignette, I chose to share some information coming out of Utah because per capita, they have the most treatment centers than any other state! However, they are also leading the nation when it comes to evidenced-based practices. For these reasons and more, they are the perfect ones to put under the microscope!

Unfortunately, mainly due to the liability and greed (although I can’t confirm or deny this is the case) most all drug and alcohol treatment centers charge outrageous prices! One of the most expensive is Cirque Lodge as they openly share that they cater to celebrities (actors, musicians, atheltes, etc.). One of the more lower cost and client centered treatment facilities in Utah is Salt Lake City Drug Rehab!

They are willing to meet clients on a sliding scale and even scholarship addicts when they have no penny to their name. However, this post is about health insurance and affording it through your healthcare policy. Since the Affordable Healthcare Act (ACA), more and more insurance agencies are dropping out and no longer covering substance abuse treatment.

The ones that are more “user-friendly” are as follows: Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Cigna, Aetna, Value Options, Humana, First Choice, UMR, etc.

Currently, if you do not have any of these plans which are mainly seasoned and company related, you do not have very many benefits. However, there does seem to be a loophole when it comes to mental and behavioral health benefits as most all policies cover treatment for those particular reasons.

Another short-term benefit is that of drug or alcohol detox because the insurance plan does not want any liability of drug overdose or death. Conversely, they are also aware that you will not be there for no longer than 3-7 days on average as opposed to residential or even outpatient treatment.

Your best bet is to get with a true addiction specialist like at Salt Lake City Drug Rehab as I have. They are extremely professional and compassionate as well as knowledgeable. For your convenience, I left a hyperlink for you to get ahold of them by within this post under Cirque Lodge Utah. I am not against Cirque Lodge, just wanted to show my readers that helicopter rides and massages does not heal addiction like true methods do!

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to leave them here. Thanks for your time and attention in this matter. I will do my best to get back and respond to each and every response as soon as possible. Have a wonderful day and thanks again for your time.

To cover or not to cover? Are you covered by your insurance?

Archives

I have a friend that lives in Salt Lake City Utah and they have a son who was messing around and running around their house acting like an out of control 8 year old.  What happened next was crazy!  This son was obviously not paying attention to his surroundings when he tripped over a rug and fell into the window of their great room.  The window shattered and the boy’s arms were all mangled and cut up.  Gratefully, they were able to find a window company who replaced home windows.  They were great to work with and got the window replaced right away.  The worst part about all of this is that my friend’s health insurance wouldn’t cover diddly-squat when it came to caring for his son’s injuries and their visit to the emergency room.

Health Care Taxes 2015

Archives

The end of the tax year is fast approaching. This means we need to have all of our ducks in a row or the great big giant IRS monitor will come after you! So with this in mind I wanted to pose the question, “are you prepared for your 2015 tax year?” More in particular, with reporting your health insurance?

What I mean by this is simple. If you purchased or obtained your health care through the governments healthcare marketplace, then you will most likely have a strict accounting with your taxes that you file for 2015. If your current job status and/or finances remained the same the entire year, then you should be fine. But, if you made an increase on salary or hourly wage, you will most likely owe the government more money to cover the difference in the discount they provided you up front. Hardly seems fair to me, but this post is not about fairness, but rather being educated and prepared for the nearby future.

What does upset me though, (ok, I buckled under my own pressure and will vent for a quick minute here) is that we are by no means a wealthy family. Through the supposed healthcare marketplace, we were supposed to be getting a greatly discounted rate/monthly premium for the entire family. We were told that we qualified for a $300/month discount making the cost for a fairly decent policy around $650/month. So as the end of the year is fast approaching, we get a letter from our insurance company saying our premium is going up $300 more dollars per month next year! WTF?!

I do not understand just how this is even legal. It seems like extortion to me. More of a bait and switch tactic. I also understand that the greedy health insurance companies are most likely forced to this because of the governments forced health care reform. So it is pointless to continue blaming who’s fault it is. The only thing we can do to fight back is to be educated as to what is going on and make educated decisions from there. What is really sad is that currently, the most cost affordable thing to do is pay the government’s fine for not being insured! Seems counter-productive to me! This healthcare reform of ours needs to stop fast! We need to be able to self regulate and not be charged so much for sub par coverage!

Take this information as a cautionary warning sign as it hopefully helps you navigate your way better through the upcoming tax time. Please feel free to leave any comments to add or take away from this blog. I always welcome the most recent and correct information!

Healthy Alternatives

Archives

I am here to offer a few alternative health choices/options today which may potentially keep you out of the doctors office. Now don’t get me wrong as I am not an anti-doctorite. I simply just believe there is more than one way to skin a cat. On that same note, I love kittens and would never want to skin a cat as well. So without further delay, I wanted to share a few different healthy alternatives that will definitely keep you happy, healthy and away from the doctors office.

The first idea is simple. Eat less fatty/sugar foods and go outside and do more active adventures with friends, family or alone. The bottom line is to be physically active by getting out of the house more often. In addition to this, it is also a good idea to go into direct sunlight for vitamin D to help fight off depression, etc. Another great anti-depressant is to go out and socialize. Go out to dinner, go on walks with loved ones. Go on hikes or amusement parks, etc. The sky is the limit here with all the possibilities, the main point here is to open the door to the great wide open and get out and play and socialize and be an active part of your neighborhood and community.

The other form of alternative healing besides things like yoga and meditation, etc. is natural homeopathic. Essential oils to be precise. I will not share any specific brand, only that it is important you do your homework and make sure the ones you research can prove how they are pure, not diluted or re-manufactored and t=so that is why you are getting a lower than average market price.

There are so many different oils and combination of oils for so many different results. I will not bore you but can say I personally have experienced a boosted immune system with an extreme ability to avoid cold and other household symptoms when everyone else int eh home has it. I have also experienced boosts in energy and overall happiness. This may sound crazy, but all I can say is for you to do the research yourself. Happy hunting!

Insurance for your Pet!

Archives

I wanted to bring up a topic that is not so serious yet still relevant and truly still thought provoking. As you can read in the title, I wanted to discuss the topic of obtaining insurance for your household pet which is usually your dog or cat. I am not sure just how far the bounds of animal pet insurance goes though. As far as having your bird (parakeet, pigeon, part, etc.) or horse or hamster, gerbil, mouse, snake, rat goldfish and all the other species of fish, pot belly pig, and so on and so on. I don’t even know where to begin or how those insurance companies that do provide coverage for animals know where to cut it off. On a different note, how do they measure what is coverable or not? Perhaps one of the readers on this website/post can chime in and explain this better to a novice of animal insurance.

I can see the wisdom in having your pet covered with health insurance if your pet is always sick or has a disease or needs certain surgeries, etc. What I am curious about is how do you measure the deductible or allow or not allow an animal based on pre-existing conditions or is there any such thing in existence with animals? It truly is a bizarre type of coverage to have indeed. You would think that animal insurance is a good thing to have n the receiving end, however on the providing end it makes you wonder why they would do knowing that it fully is meant to be a for profit venture. I just have a really hard time thinking that any animal health insurance company truly has your pet’s best interest in mind. Maybe they do, stranger things have happened.

One final thought to leave you all with as I do not expect there to be any answers or comments to this strange post. Nevertheless, I wanted to bring up this topic and see what responses if any that I may stir up in any of you. So here is my final thought, what if there was a bill that mandated all American pet owners to obtain an animal health insurance policy for their pet? At first it sounds crazy right? In all actuality it is no different than Obamacare forcing us to get health insurance because it is in the best interest of Americans. Even crazier, you will be penalized for not getting insurance if you do not want it. So why not expand this concept to all forms of those covered with insurance to prove a point that we cannot be treated like dogs as we deserve basic freedoms such as to get health insurance or not. At this point, this is food for thought. Please leave a comment if you either agree or disagree, I am always open to learning and I am sure everyone here has some type of information on the matter. If not, oh well, life goes on and so shall we then.

Dental Care

Archives

We have this dental insurance plan right now that requires a waiting period for any services other than the regular six month cleanings.  We used to have dental insurance that didn’t have any waiting periods at all.  If the dentist said we needed a filling and we had a cavity or two we could schedule an appointment as soon as they could fit us in.  We usually had any follow up work done within a week of the cleaning.

The current waiting periods for our insurance plan, I won’t give the name or too many details, but we have to wait six months for any basic services which includes mainly cavities, sealants, extractions, root canals and root planing.  But this too may vary by the insurance company and plan you have.  For any major services, the waiting period is 18 months.  If we need anything major done, for example:  implants,  crowns, bridges, or oral surgery we have to wait 18 months after we sign up to get any of this work done.

On the other hand, my children get a preventative child care plan.  I think they call it a pediatric dental plan.  This pediatric dental plan is part of their health insurance plan.  It only covers the basic cleaning every six months as well as some x-rays.  I am glad my wife was able to take my daughters to the dentist for the first time recently.  Only to find out though that our oldest has 3 cavities and the dentist recommended sealants for a number of her teeth.  After they showed my wife a breakdown of the cost of getting the fillings and the sealants and gave her the print out, she called me to explain what went down and what the cost would be to get the work done at the kid’s dental office.  Thank goodness we know about this place that works with a hygienist school, in fact, it’s a dental office behind the school that offers dental work for 1/2 price.

Instead of continuing our dental insurance, for my wife and I, we will probably not continue paying the premium because we are paying $50 something dollars a month for what?  Oh yeah, for a cleaning and x-rays.  We will take our business to 1/2 price dental, even for our kid’s.  It will be about $200 cheaper to go there to get my daughters fillings and sealants taken care of promptly, instead of waiting until who knows when to use the pediatric plan that we have for our children which doesn’t cover squat.

ObamaCare

Archives

Did you know that the Affordable Health Care Act or Obama Care is more than 1,000 pages explaining the bill.  Have you looked into it?  Are you interested in reading over 1,000 pages to understand the bill?  I sure as heck am not interested in reading over 1,000 pages.  I would love someone to explain it to me and dumb it down a bit so that I can understand it.  What I do understand though, I will be talking about in this post.  I am sure I will miss a lot of points, maybe even important or valid points but I will do my best to present both sides of the argument.  Maybe you will be able to sense some of my biased opinions and that is okay.  If you have other opinions or points you would like to share or like me to consider, please leave a comment and share with me as I am always open to new ideas and perspectives.

Do you have health insurance through ObamaCare or the Health Insurance Market Place?  Did you have insurance prior to ObamaCare and do you still have the same insurance that you had prior to ObamaCare taking effect?  Maybe you are one of the individuals that had great insurance prior to ObamaCare and you still have the same great plan.
